Sebastian Inlet Exercise
How We Got Fit In The Water!
A group of us trainers from Get Fit At Home - Vero Beach Fitness went out on the water yesterday on a friend’s boat and we discovered to our surpise the strength of the current. The tide was rushing in through the tight tidal gate at the inlet in Sebastian and we motored over to the shallow sand bank about a mile inside where there were a bunch of boats beached and achored up and people wading and clamming in the water.
We anchored about 50 yards closer to the inlet than where the crowds were and when we jumped off the boat we were in a lap pool. The tidal current was a lot stronger than we though - about 2.5 knots and it was perfect. We swam against it for 15 to 20 minutes and just stayed in the same place! It was a strong current! We don’t recommend it without a certified lifeguard present - but it was an interesting variation for a workout. A lap pool in the middle of the Intercoastal lagoon!
We love Sebastian Inlet and all that the great State Park there has to offer. Such a wonderful beach too just South of the Inlet - I had never seen it but we took our trawler out and around to the beach there and saw the depth of the beaches and the soft sand. Next weekend’s beach stop!
