A Horse is a Horse, and More

Posted by billero on March 26th, 2008

specialequest.jpgIt is time to lend a helping hand.

The Special Equestrians of the Treasure Coast (SETC) has been providing therapeutic horseback riding to special needs children and adults throughout the community for many years. The SETC has benefited riders that suffer from autism, brain injury, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, genetic syndrome with learning disabilities, mental retardation, schizophrenia, stroke, amongst others. This program is a wonderful program that our community offers. It should receive much praise.

If you too would like to make a difference in these children and adults lives, you can volunteer by calling Vickie Penly at 772/ 562-7603. If volunteering is not for you, you can help by donating to the Special Equestrians. They have a wish list with things on it including new English saddles, a manure spreader, and wood shavings for the stalls. For more information visit the SETC website.

Run, Walk or Hop for a Cure

Posted by billero on March 24th, 2008

relayforlife.jpgThe Sebastian Relay for Life event is quickly approaching. This year, the kickoff date will be Friday, April 25 beginning at 6pm and lasting until Saturday morning at 9am. As usual, it will take place on the Sebastian River High School football field. There will be food and entertainment to keep you on your toes all night long.

The event benefits the American Cancer Society and already has 20 teams signed up this year. Be sure to get your business or company to participate, as it is a great way to bring together all members of your organization, publicize your affiliation, and ultimately and most importantly, help raise money for the Cancer Society. To form a team or get more information, contact Kris Altman at 772/562-2272 extension 113.

Hospitals and Physicians

Posted by CityBlogFL on May 28th, 2007

When someone relocates they often seek information about physicians, specialists, hospitals and other types of health care, such as extended care. Is there a resource in Sebastian for health care information?

Help, I need a Doctor

Posted by CityBlogFL on May 28th, 2007

Sebastian, Florida has a hospital. Sebastian has many medical professionals operating in a variety of specialties. Fundamental healthcare begins with an individual or family?s access to a general physician, call it a family doctor or for children, a Pediatrician and for women a Gynecologist. Certainly, for people like me, a good therapist; better yet, a Psychiatrist! But why is it that someone in Sebastian, Florida cannot locate a physician that will take new patients?
CityBlog Sebastian, was struck by the frustration that was apparent in Susie Pena’s (a Sebastian, Florida resident) post on May 9, 2007, which read as follows:
I have been here 1 year this June and have yet to find a doctor that will accept new patients. I am very discouraged that there is no avenue for new residents to find out who is available without a lot of labor intensive efforts.
Does Sebastian have a physician association or, does the hospital know of new physicians coming into Sebastian that are looking for new patients? It would behoove all communities to have some centralized service that maintains a list of physicians who can accept patients as either “new” or on a rotating basis until the new resident can establish regular healthcare.
