‘Squid Lips’ Sticks

Posted by billero on March 24th, 2008

squidlips.gifIf you want to have some fun, you need to try Squid Lips! This local Sebastian restaurant stands on stilts in the Indian River Lagoon and features delicious food and superb entertainment. With a variety of innovative recipes, electrifying entertainment and a brilliant environment, Squid Lips is a real crowd pleaser.

Favorite food choices include the Cajun oyster appetizer, the drunken sweet potato, the Caesar salad with key-lime Caesar salad dressing, the abaco fish sandwich, praline tilapia, black cherry pepper pork, and many other tasty choices.

The Top Hats are a local favorite entertainment choice and grace the Sebastian Squid Lips with their presence on Sunday evenings. As summer approaches, you can’t go wrong with the environment that the restaurant features. While sitting outside you can see dolphins splashing, pelicans flying about, and catch a cool Florida breeze.

Located at 1660 Indian River Drive in Sebastian. Visit the website!

Rips: Everything but a ‘Rip’ Off

Posted by billero on March 19th, 2008

ribs.jpg
Last Wednesday I found the most delicious little place right off of South Ocean Drive in Vero Beach. Upon exiting the restaurant, I had a full stomach and not even a dent in my pocket.

Rips Place for Ribs is quite delicious. For under $10, I got a large salad (ask for blue cheese crumbles on the side), large crispy rolls, two sides (the beans are to die for), and a 1/2 BBQ chicken. And let me tell you, the chicken was absolutely fantastic! Make sure to ask for the two homemade Rips BBQ sauces to eat with your chicken, because the sauces mixed together really amp the taste.

Another unexpected little treat, was the live band and $1 draft beers. Who can beat it?

Rips is located at 1517 South Ocean Drive in Vero Beach.

Gene Billero’s Favorite Steak in the Country

Posted by billero on March 11th, 2008

delfriscoslogo.jpgIf you are looking to escape the Sebastian coast for the weekend (and who knows why you would!?), then Gene wants to tell you about a real treat. Located in the heart of Orlando, Del Frisco’s Prime Steak & Lobster is absolutely something to write home about. The steak and lobster house certainly earned the 2007 Zagat Survey of America’s Top Restaurants review stating that they offered the “best steak at any restaurant, in any city, at any price”.

And Gene can vouch for the Zagat rating. Mr. Billero says, “Nothing compares. It is just so good.” Del Frisco’s prepares its USDA prime, aged, corn-fed Midwestern beef for distinguished tastes. The restaurant offers a wine cellar with over 6,500 bottles of wine, as well as an extensive single-malt scotch collection. A scrumptious selection of appetizers such as their famous lobster bisque, crab cakes, or thick sliced beef steak tomatoes and sliced sweet onions are sure to set you up for a delightful dining experience. And remember, with that steak, you cannot go wrong! Following dinner, you can choose from one of the delectable desserts made fresh in the restaurants kitchen.

Del Frisco’s Prime Steak & Lobster is worth the quick hour and a half drive from Sebastian. Along with the yummy food, it is a wonderful environment that features a Piano Lounge offering sing-a-long entertainment. Valet parking and an outdoor gazebo are also available. Del Frisco’s is located at 729 Lee Road, Orlando (2 blocks west of I-4 at exit 88). Reservations are required. Gene reminds you that “Del Frisco’s is delicious”.

Visit Del Frisco’s website for more information.

Great breakfast place!

Posted by billero on March 5th, 2008

breakfast.jpgEvery Sunday as I take a spin down US-1 in Sebastian I pass this tiny little breakfast place. The outside of the joint usually showcases flocks of people waiting outside for a table. I finally decided to pull over and see what all of the fuss was about.

‘Country Ham and Eggs’ definitely proved a reason to get hyped up. The 45 minute wait was well worth it. The diner-esque type place serves all of the basic favorites. Sebastian needed a simple little breakfast nook as this one. And, yum! The home-style offerings are delicious. With a variety of omelets, eggs, pancakes and waffles to choose from, there is something for everyone. A lunch menu is also offered. Located right between the 512 east and west bound roads off of US-1 in Sebastian, Country Ham and Eggs will not let you down. It is a true treasure!
